Seek Inspiration

James Nachtwey is one of the most influential photojournalists of all times. James has won the Robert Capa Gold Medal five times, Dan David prize in 2002, TED Prize award in 2007... Just to name a few from a sea of photography achievements.

James was injured in 2003 by a grenade while photographing as a TIME Magazine correspondent in Baghdad.

Who hasn't felt at times the inspiration/motivation crankset a bit dry and rusty. It's inevitable and part of human nature to feel tired at times, and our choice wether to lift the spirits or let them swim in the quicksand.

Runners, poets, administrators, doctors, scientists, mathematicians, photographers... Everyone needs some soul-candy at times.

Here's a clip from Nachtwey's speech at the TED Prize ceremony. I hope this lubricates your spirit and helps you pedal that cranckset with all your might. Never stop learning, take advantage of your sight, it's a gift not everyone has and it might not be with you at some point.

Learn and share, learn from sharing. Photograph, now!

New iPhone Photos in My Portfolio: Be My Editor

Here's an interesting concept created by Chase J. a while back. Shows how a little imagination can take you far. If you're into photography, shoot... all the time. Be it with a $5k Nikon D3s or your $150 phone, just capture moments for eternity, you'll look back many years from now and smile at these memories.

Check out what CJ has done with his iPhone.

Have a Story to Tell

Have a Story to Tell

Make sure you have a story to tell. In many cases the image won't say a thousand words! It's important that you gather as much information as you can from your subject.

For example Marco Hidalgo, a racer at the Rainforest Run in Costa Rica who started racing with his black pair of shoes, soon after the first of six days of running Marco found a hefty set of blisters in his left foot. Marco tried on his second pair of shoes (orange) just to find after the second day of running that his right foot now had matching blisters... Needless to say, he found the perfect pair, a combination that took him to the finish line of a 220+ Kilometer race.

And a Story for Your Sponsor
On the other hand, someone I short-after saw with a smile on his face was the owner of the Asics distribution store in Costa Rica... Marco's outfit and story were a perfect blend to get some new running shoes and socks for Lead's team.
